FREE TIME, good life more important than MONEY

Living a morally good life and having free time is more important to New Zealanders than getting rich, according to a recent survey.

The poll, conducted by UMR Research, asked 750 respondents to rate six values on whether they were very important, somewhat important, not that important or very not important at all.

Only eight percent valued being wealthy as "very important", but most rated living a morally good life (78 per cent), having enough time to do the things you want to do (64 per cent) and having children (59 per cent) as very important.

Climbing the career ladder didn't appeal to many, with only 37 per cent rated being successful in a career as very important compared with 49 per cent who rated helping the wider community by volunteering and donating as very important.

The research showed Aucklanders, men and those under 30 were more likely to rate being wealthy and being successful in their careers as very important.

More men than women valued free time as very important, while more women than men valued having children, volunteering and donating as very important.

Those that valued being wealthy also valued significantly more highly than other people having enough time to do the things you want to do and being successful in a career.

Similar research conducted in the United States shows New Zealanders and Americans rated things much the same as each other, but with one important exception.

While 61 per cent of Americans rated being successful in a career as very important, only 37 per cent of New Zealanders felt the same.

YEAH, DAMN TRUE!!! MY FUCKING FREE TIME IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN MONEY!!! I WISH I'M STAYING NZ NOW!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! DAMN...

PETALING JAYA: Malaysians from all walks of life have joined hands to come to the aid of the victims of the Sichuan earthquake.

Steven Yeam Networks (SYN) yesterday donated RM180,000 to The Star's Sichuan Quake Fund. The money was raised by the company's shareholders and Steven Yeam, who founded the company.

“This is to start the ball rolling,” said Yeam. Besides the company, he said 2,000 members of SYN also chipped in.

Another RM180,000 was donated to the Sin Chew Daily Myanmar Cyclone Relief Fund.

Big hearts, a big donation: The Star’s Sichuan Quake Fund received an early boost, with Steven Yeam Network donating RM180,000 on Sunday. SYN’s founder Steven Yeam (fourth from left) handed the cheques over to The Star’s managing editor David Yeoh (second from right). With them are (from left) Solution Risk Consultants managing director Winnie Lim, counsellor of the Chinese embassy’s economic and commercial office Gao Wen Kuan, Deputy Home Affairs Minister Datuk Chor Chee Heung, Mieco Chipboard Bhd managing director Datuk Yong Seng Yeow, and Star Publications marketing services executive Loo Phan Kooi.

“I hope with this donation, I will be able to encourage Malaysians to be more charitable,” said Yeam.

The Star's managing editor David Yeoh received the cheque on behalf of the fund at the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre here yesterday.

Yeam said he was overcome by emotion when he saw the plight of the victims of the earthquake and cyclone.

He encouraged Malaysians to donate generously and help make the world a better place, adding that even one ringgit could make a difference.

Deputy Home Affairs Minister Datuk Chor Chee Heung, who was present said: “We are lucky as Malaysia does not experience natural disasters, other than the tsunami in 2004.”

Chinese Embassy economic and commercial counsellor Gao Wen Kuan, who was also present, said: “Malaysians from various ethnic groups have come together to help the disaster victims.”

He said he was glad the Malaysian government had promised the China disaster victims RM4.8mil.

On Friday, the Sichuan Quake Fund received its first donation from Asia Pacific Land Bhd.

Its joint managing director Low Gee Teong presented a cheque for RM15,000 to The Star’s group editorial/education adviser Datuk Ng Poh Tip at Menara Star here.

He said it was a “small deed” compared to the other contributions from many other organisations.

“We are looking forward to do more in the future,” he added.

Low also donated RM10,000 to The Star’s Myanmar Relief Fund just before it closed. He also presented a cheque for RM28,000 which was collected by tenants of Plaza Low Yat for the Cyclone Nargis victims.

He also presented a sum of RM5,738.20 for the Myanmar Relief Fund.

It was collected from guests, staff and others in Federal Hotel, Crown Princess Kuala Lumpur and Capitol Hotel.

Ooppsss... Wrong Flowers?!!!@#$%^&*()

A new business was opening and one of the owner's friends wanted to send him flowers for the occasion.

They arrived at the new business site and the owner read the card, .... "Rest in Peace"

The owner was angry and called the florist to complain. After he had told the florist of the obvious mistake and how angry he was.

The florist replied, "Sir, I'm really sorry for the mistake, but rather than getting angry, you should imagine this : somewhere, there is a funeral taking place today, and they have flowers with a note saying,... "Congratulations on your new location"

ROFL!!! HAhahahahahahahaha!!!!

Song: HERE IN MY HOME

Hold on brother hold on
The road is long. We’re on stony ground
But I’m strong. You ain’t heavy

Oh there’s a misspoken truth that lies
Colors don’t bind, oh no.
What do they know? They speak falsely.

Chorus:
Here in my home
I’ll tell you what its all about
There’s just one hope here in my heart
One Love undivided
That’s what it’s all about
Please won’t you fall in one by one by one [with me]?

Push back sister won’t you push back?
Love won’t wait. Just keep pushing on.
Yes I’m strong. You ain’t heavy.

Oh don’t you worry about that…
What we have the shadows can’t deny
Don’t you know it’s now or never?

Rap:

[Malay: TRANSLATED]
Years of fears and years of tribulation
The heart keeps searching for that endless devotion

[Chinese: TRANSLATED]
Hand in hand we’ll march like blood brothers
I speak for my people hope we’ll find peace forever

[Tamil: TRANSLATED]
May the road ahead quench my thirst for success
May the road behind echo a song of the blessed

[English]
So I will let it be known yes I feel it in my bones
No matter where I roam this is home sweet home
Sing!

The Mummy Tomb of the Dragon Emperor

The blockbuster global "Mummy" franchise takes a spellbinding turn as the action shifts to Asia for the next chapter in the adventure series, "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor." Brendan Fraser returns as explorer Rick O'Connell to combat the resurrected Han Emperor (Jet Li) in an epic that races from the catacombs of ancient China high into the frigid Himalayas. Rick is joined in this all-new adventure by son Alex (newcomer Luke Ford), wife Evelyn (Maria Bello) and her brother, Jonathan (John Hannah). And this time, the O'Connells must stop a mummy awoken from a 2,000-year-old curse who threatens to plunge the world into his merciless, unending service.

Doomed by a double-crossing sorceress (Michelle Yeoh) to spend eternity in suspended animation, China's ruthless Dragon Emperor and his 10,000 warriors have laid forgotten for eons, entombed in clay as a vast, silent terra cotta army. But when dashing adventurer Alex O'Connell is tricked into awakening the ruler from eternal slumber, the reckless young archaeologist must seek the help of the only people who know more than he does about taking down the undead: his parents.

As the monarch roars back to life, our heroes find his quest for world domination has only intensified over the millennia. Striding the Far East with unimaginable supernatural powers, the Emperor Mummy will rouse his legion as an unstoppable, otherworldly force...unless the O'Connells can stop him first. Now, in "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor," the trademark thrills and visually spectacular action of the "Mummy" series will be redefined for a new generation.

"The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" is helmed by director Rob Cohen ("The Fast and the Furious," "xXx") and written by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar ("Spider-Man 2," television's "Smallville"). Reprising their roles as producers in the series are Bob Ducsay, Sean Daniel, Stephen Sommers and James Jacks. Release Date is August 1, 2008.

Star Wars - The Clone Wars - "Like You Never Seen It Before"

The 90-minute premiere episode of the CGI animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars will have a limited release in U.S. cinemas starting August 15th, 2008.

Not only will this be the first 3-D animated movie for the highly-successful saga, but this will also be the first Star Wars movie not released through Twentieth Century Fox. Fox released all six Star Wars movies, plus the original microseries The Clone Wars on home video.

But Warner Bros. and Turner Broadcasting will release Star Wars: The Clone Wars this time. The principle reason is that Turner's and W.B.'s subsidiary, The Cartoon Network, managed to snag the rights to the series from creator George Lucas.

SUPERMODEL named world's HOTTEST Woman

Supermodel Marisa Miller has been named Maxim Magazine's most beautiful woman in 2008.

American supermodel Marisa Miller has knocked actress Lindsay Lohan from the top of men magazine Maxim's list of the 100 hottest women in the world.

It was the first time that Miller, 29, a Victoria's Secret model, appeared on the annual list and comes after she also graced the cover of the 2008 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue.

"(Miller) embodies the official return of the all-American supermodel. Not since Cindy Crawford ruled the catwalk has a pinup born and bred on US soil so thoroughly captured the imagination of the American male," noted Maxim editorial director James Kaminsky.

Lohan, who topped last year's list of the Hot 100 "Ultimate List of the World's Most Beautiful Women," fell to a somewhat lukewarm No. 9.

"After a tumultuous year involving a car wreck and rehab, La Lohan had Hollywood wondering if she was worth the trouble," said Kaminsky.

Miller was followed by actress Scarlett Johansson, a "dangerously curvy bombshell" who, according to Maxim, also possesses "the acting chops to back up her mind-melting hotness".

And while Jessica Biel may have starred on the US family-friendly television drama 7th Heaven as a preacher's daughter, the actress is starring at No. 3 on the Hot 100.

Britney Spears just cracked the Top 20 in the ninth annual list, squeaking in at No. 19 after a year that included stints in rehab and a notorious head-shaving incident.

The rest of the list includes the usual suspects - Beyonce, Charlize Theron, Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Heidi Klum, and some new faces, including 22-year-old Ashley Tisdale from the hit tween movie series High School Musical.

Rounding out the Hot 100 women in film, television, music, sports and fashion at No.100 is Tila Tequila, the self-professed bi-sexual TV reality star.

Maxim Magazine's top 10:

1. Marissa Miller
2. Scarlett Johansson
3. Jessica Biel
4. Eva Longoria
5. Sarah Michelle Gellar
6. Elisha Cuthbert
7. Eva Mendes
8. Christina Aguilera
9. Lindsay Lohan
10. Ashley Tisdale

A Day At Carey Island...

Last Saturday, I was at Carey Island, Klang helping V and M to held an event for Sime Darby HQ at Golden Hope Academy. It was my first time to Carey Island. Excited and can't wait to be there. Woke up early, M picked me up and we off to Carey Island. Almost all over Carey Island, you can see palm oil trees here and there. There is even 18 holes golf course in Golden Hope Academy beside the sea separated by sea bunk. After getting our stuff to the main lecture hall, we went over to the Mah Meri Orang Asli village to meet up with the participants. Saw the welcoming dance and got myself a welcoming headgear by the natives. After awhile, went back to GHA to prepare all the stuff and the items needed for the activities. Next, we went over to Arboretum, a herbal garden to have a short hunt there. A little small and cozy garden with fish pond. Learnt many funny names of plants. After lunch, we organized a few activities for the participating ala Amazing Race. First, there was the fishing game where 1 group need to catch 2 fishes followed by putting a golf ball in its hole and eat crackers with wasabi. I was thrilled that the participants did really catch fishes using palm oil tree branch at the big drain nearby GHA. I took care the station where a member of a group need to eat crackers with wasabi. Then, they need to rush over to library to look for their next clue and then, head over for some sumpit ballon competition. Not easy though. And lastly, they need to crack the lock at the treasure box. Overall, it was a fun activities with hiccups here and there but the most important the participants have a great time especially most of them is AUNTIEs!!! Hahhahaha!!! After having tea break, we packed and headed home. On the way, M told me Carey Island also famous for its seafood. Mmmhhh, no doubt I will comeback here again to try it out.
